Men 7th, Women 8th at Fredonia

The Alfred State men's swimming team finished 7th and the women finished 8th at the three-day Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational this weekend. The Pioneer men scored 232 points while the women scored 188.

Tim Olin (Perry) led the men with a 9th place finish in the 100 back (57.68). He was also part of the 400 medley relay team that finished 13th (3:51.41) and the 400 free relay team that finished 15th (3:29.57). He was joined by Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA), Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) and Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) in the medley relay and teamed with Nathan Ciciera (Lake Shore), Dale, and Sporysz in the free relay.

Cutler was 10th in the 400 IM (4:32.17), Dale was 12th in the 200 breast (2:17.19), and Tyler La Flamm (Mexico) was 15th in the 100 back (59.08). On the diving board, Nick Beach (Canandaigua) was 6th in the 3 m finals with 290.30 points. 

Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) led the efforts on Sunday with a 6th place finish in the 200 breast. She finished the championship heat in 2:38.82. In the 100 fly, Sell finished 15th in 1:05.94. She was also part of the 400 medley relay team that finished 12th (4:34.63) and the 400 free relay team that finished 15th (4:04.36). In the medley she competed with Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood), Josey Brewer (Letchworth), and Kaileigh Lehman (Beaver River) and in the free relay she teamed with Lehman, Rachel Caltagirone (Tonawanda), and Elizabeth Drake (Lansing).

Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) finished 10th in the 1 m diving competition with 228.05 points while Perry was 14th in the 100 back (1:06.84).

Allegheny College won the men's title while John Carroll took the women's crown.

The Pioneers are off until January 11th when they battle Indiana University of PA in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
