Pioneers Swim Past Altoona

The Alfred State team swam past Penn State Altoona on Saturday in a AMCC meet. The Pioneers won 24 of the 28 events (men won 13 of 14) on the day as the men won 177-65 and women won 188-65.

Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) won all three of his individual events to pace the Pioneer men while Tim Olin (Perry), Ethan Tatro (Lockport), and Nathan Miller (Gananda) each won twice. Dale won the 50 breast (30.68), the 100 breast (1:05.76), and the 200 IM (2:09.34). Olin won the 50 back (28.53) and the 100 back (1:01.43), Tatro won the 50 free (24.19) and the 100 free (54.85), and Miller won the 50 fly (26.36) and the 100 fly (59.97).

Anthony Kahwaty (Jefferson Township, NJ) won the 1,000 free (12:05.21) and Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) won the 500 free (5:27.74)

Olin, Dale, Cutler, and Tatro combined to win the 200 medley relay in 1:47.97 while Nate Ciciera (Derby/Lake Shore), Mason Sparks (Lockport/Royalton Hartland), Miller, and Tyler La Flamm (Mexico) won the 200 free relay in 1:37.76.

Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) was a triple event winner to pace the women's team as they improved to 3-1 on the dual meet season (2-0 AMCC). She won the 50 back (34.73), the 50 fly (30.92), and the 100 back (1:11.18). Kathryn Lewis (Sanborn/Niagara Wheatfield) won the 1,000 free (11:58.13), the 50 breast (30.68) while Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) won the 200 free (2:09.39) and the 100 breast (1:19.32).

Rachel Caltagirone (Buffalo/Tonawanda) won the 50 free (27.58) in her final collegiate meet of her career. Lauren Earley (Waterford/Shenendehowa) also picked up an individual event victory by winning the 500 free (5:56.90).

Earley, Kaileigh Lehman (Lowville/Beaver River), Armstrong and Stevens combined to win the 200 medley relay in 2:06.46 while Caltagirone, Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), Lewis, and Lehman raced to a 200 free relay victory in 1:51.78.

The Pioneers wrap up the 2017 portion of their season the first weekend of December (1-3) when they compete at the Fredonia Invitational.
