Swimmers Claim Title at Pioneer Invitational
Both the Alfred State men's and women's swimming & diving teams took the top spot in the 2nd annual Pioneer Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers women scored 576 points on the day while the men scored 481.
On the women's side the Pioneers won seven individual swimming events and both relays. Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield) was a double winner. She won the 200 free in 2:09.53 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.93. Kelsey Lynch (Wellsville) won the 200 fly in 2:52.88, Elizabeth Drake (Lansing) won the 100 free in 1:01.52, Kaileigh Lehman (Beaver River) won the 200 breast in 2:53.81, Lauren Earley (Shenendehowa) won the 500 free in 6:03.80, and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) won the 400 IM in 5:28.97.
Lewis, Lehman, Drake, and Stevens combined to win the 200 free relay in 1:52.79 while Earley, Josey Brewer (Letchworth), Payton Armstrong (Monroe Woodbury), and Elizabeth Furmanski (Albion) won the 200 medley relay in 2:09.80.
On the men's side, Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) won the 200 free in 1:56.63 and Mason Sparks (Royalton-Hartland) won the 100 free in 53.80 to lead the way. Dale was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team when he combined with Tyler La Flamm (Mexico), Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ), and Ethan Tatro (Lockport) to win in 1:44.88 while Sparks was part of the winning 200 free relay team with Nate Ciciera (Lake Shore), Nathan Miller (Gananda), and Anthony Kahwaty (Jefferson Township, NJ).
Kahwaty was 2nd in the 1650 free (19:25.65), Dale was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:12.45) and 2nd in the 200 breast (2:21.34), Tatro was 2nd in the 50 free (24.05), La Flamm was 2nd in the 100 free (54.50), Ciciera was 2nd in the 100 fly (1:03.42), and Cutler was 2nd in the 400 IM (4:44.23).
In the diving competition held at Alfred University, Stevens won both the 1m (272.92) and the 3m (264.37) competition. Nick Beach (Canandaigua) won the 3m (423.67) and was 2nd in the 1m (333.22).
Roberts Wesleyan was 2nd in the women's competition with 250 points followed by Genesee CC (124), Herkimer CCC (56), and SUNY Delhi (50).
Genesee CC took 2nd in the men's standings with 381 followed by SUNY Delhi (129), Roberts Wesleyan (122), and Herkimer CCC (119).
The blue & gold are back in the pool next Saturday when they travel to Cabrini for Noon meet.
