Big First Day for Pioneer Swimmers

The Alfred State swimming and diving teams set five new school records on day one of the 2018 AMCC Championships. The men sit in 1st place with 69 points while the women are 2nd with 38 points. 

Nick Beach (Canandaigua) set a new school record in the 11 dive and 6 dive formats in winning the 3m title. He scored a 433.40 for11 dive format and 249.60 in the 6 dive format. Beach has now won the 3m title in back-to-back years. Teammate Austin Miller (Hornell) finished 3rd (335.10) and Jackson Teboe (Falconer) was 4th (315.05).

In the 800 free relay the quartet of Ethan Dale (Lock Haven), Tyler La Flamm (Mexico), Nathan Miller (Gananda), and Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) finished 4th in 7:30.30 and broke the school record by almost 12 seconds. Dale broke the 200 free relay record by recording a 1:51.53 split in his opening leg of the relay.

The women's 800 free relay team finished 3rd in 8:29.72. The team of Sarah Stevens (Wellsville), Lauren Earley (Waterford/Shenendehowa), Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), and Kathryn Lewis (Sanborn/Niagara Wheatfield) broke the previous school record by almost 11 seconds

Penn State Behrend leads the women's standings with 40 points followed by Alfred State. Cabrini is 3rd with 36, Pitt Bradford is 4th (22), Penn State Altoona is 5th (20), and Franciscan is 6th (18).

Alfred State 69 points is ahead of Behrend's 59, Cabrini's 34, Pitt Bradford's 26, and Penn State Altoona's 20.

The action continues tomorrow with preliminary heats at 10 a.m., diving at 1 p.m., and the finals at 6 p.m.
