Kemsley and Brigman Highlight Day One of ECAC's

Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) and Emily Brigman (Lancaster) led the Alfred State contingent on day one of the ECAC Championships at the Amory in New York City. Kemsley won the shot put competition while Brigman set a new school record in the pentathlon.

Kemsley won the shot put competition with a toss of 15.56 m (51'00.75"). His winning toss was .04 further than the 2nd place finisher and .34 more than 3rd place. Kemsley's performance has the Pioneers in 6th place overall in the team standings with 10 points. He will compete in the weight throw tomorrow.

Brigman accumulated 2,444 points to earn 8th place in the pentathlon. Her total is now the new top standard in the women's record book breaking the previous record of 2,348 set by Jessica Rollins in 2004. Her time in the 60 m hurdles was 10.06 earned her 701 points and is the 2nd fastest time in the event in school history. In the high jump she recorded a leap of 1.40 m to score 512 points and is now 6th all-time. Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) was 9th in the pentathlon with 2,260 points.

After four events of the heptathlon, the Pioneers sit in 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th. Alex Brown (Wellsville) is in 7th with 2,037 points, Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) is 8th with 2,023 points, Tim Berry (Midlakes) is 9th with 1,1919 points, and Joe Richardson (Geneva) is 10th with 1,703 points. Brown's top performance was in the 60 m where he scored 628 points after racing to a time of 7.77 while Ruebenstahl scored 571 in the same event with a time of 7.96.
