Kemsley Highlights Great Night for Pioneers

Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) highlighted a solid showing for the Alfred State track & field team at the Cortland Please Stop Snowing Challenge on Friday. The men's team finished 4th in the team's standings while the women were 8th. 

Kemsley led the way for the field athletes by winning a pair of events. He set a new school record in winning the hammer throw with a toss of 48.93 m. He also won the discus after recording a throw of 48.26. 

Anders Presthus (Lansing) won the shot put (13.52 m), was 2nd in the discus (42.07 m), was 3rd in the hammer (44.60 m), and was 4th in the javelin (40.44 m). Dylan Perlino (Holland) was 4th in the hammer throw (42.44 m) and 8th in the shot (11.66 m). Bryce Chapman (Geneseo) recorded an 8th place finish in the javelin (34.65 m). Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 3rd in the pole vault (3.71 m) and 4th in the high jump (1.69 m). Joe Richardson (Geneva) was 4th in the high jump (1.69 m), 7th in the triple jump (11.98 m), and 8th in the long jump (6.03 m). Nickolas Brown (Wellsville) was 3rd in the high jump (1.74 m) while Isiah Richardson (Geneva) was 6th in the long jump (6.07 m) and 6th in the triple jump (11.98 m).

On the track, Caleb Boyce-Wright (Cheektowaga/John Kennedy) was 6th in the 800 (2:07.27), Ryan MacDonald (Johnson City) was the 7th in the 400 hurdles (1:13.39), and Chadwick Ekeigwe (Spring Valley/Ramapo) was 9th in the 400 (52.94).

The men's team scored 88.83 points to earn 4th place. They trailed only Cortland (213.83), Buffalo State (113.33), and Daemen (91.5). They finished ahead of Roberts Wesleyan (69.5), Houghton (44), Oswego (16), and SUNY ESF (15).

On the women's side, Chloe Cox (Tucson, AZ) was 6th in the javelin and jumped into the all-time top list with a throw of 23.72 m. Hannah Sanyczuk (Machias/Pioneer) was 4th in the shot put (10.14 m) and 6th in the discus (29.76 m). Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 4th in the 100 hurdles (18.28) while Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) was 6th (19.33). Brigman was also 7th in the high jump (1.42 m). The 4x100 relay team of Sophie Gonzalez (Bronx/Kings Park), Shannon Shirley, Dominique Shirley, and Alexis Carrington (Manhattan/NYC iSchool) was 5th in 53.14. Gonzalez was also 6th in the 100 m (13.26)

The women's team scored 27.5 points to earn 8th place.

The Pioneers are back in action next Friday when they head to the University of Rochester.
