Women's Team Finishes 5th at Alfred Invitational

The Alfred State women's outdoor track & field team finished 5th at the Alfred Invitational under the sun soaked sky on Monday afternoon. The Pioneers scored 87 points in the event that featured athletes from nine colleges.

Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) won the javelin with a toss of 29.07 m. She was also 4th in the high jump (1.45 m), 5th in the long jump (4.56 m). Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) won the steeplechase in 13:19.96 while Olivia Leonti (Port Byron) was 2nd in 14:13.07.

Marissa Sly (N. Tonawanda) was 3rd in the 100 m hurdles (17.99), Dominique Shirley was 4th in the 100 m dash (13.43), Hannah Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) was 4th in the shot put (9.46 m) and 5th in the discus (28.46 m), and Julia Yanarella (Wappinger Falls/Roy Ketcham) was 2nd in the javelin (24.68 m) and was 5th in the high jump (1.30 m).

Niagara University won the women's team title with 176 points followed by Alfred University (110), Buffalo State (104), Daemen (90), and Alfred State. St. Bonaventure and Canisius tied for 6th (40), Roberts Wesleyan was 8th (25), and Mansfield 9th (16).

A trio of multi athletes will head to Hillsdale College on Thursday and Friday to compete in the Gina Relays while the rest of team is next in action on Saturday at St. John Fisher.
