Richardson Wins ECAC Decathlon, Kemsley 2nd in Discus
Joe Richardson (Geneva) won the decathlon to highlight the Alfred State performances at the 2018 ECAC Championships at Johns Hopkins University. The men's team finished 11th overall while the women were 25th.
Richardson finished the ten event decathlon with 5,100 points. He finished 285 points ahead of 2nd place finisher Christian Scotti from Marywood. Richardson scored the most points in day two in the 1,500. He scored 582 points with a time of 4:56.24. He also scored 408 points in the discus with a toss of 27.12 m. His performance was 446 points higher than his performance earlier in the season. His performance puts him in the Alfred State top ten in the event.
Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 3rd overall with 4,793 points. He scored 551 points in the 1,500 (5:01.53) and 549 points in the pole vault (3.75 m). Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 6th with 4,517 points which was 139 points better than his best on the season. He scored 549 points in the pole vault (3.75 m) and 430 points in the 110 hurdles (19.03). Alex Brown (Wellsville) finished 8th with 4,416 points.
In the discus throw, Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) finished 2nd with a toss of 45.98 m. His best toss came in his last attempt of the event. Anders Presthus (Lansing) earned 8th place in the event with a toss of 42.10 m.
The men's 4x800 relay team of Cooper Buckley, Caleb Boyce-Wright (Cheektowaga/John Kennedy), Michael Girard (Phoenix), and Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley) ran a season best time of 8:31.62 to earn 11th place.
Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) led the women's team with a 8th place finish in the heptathlon. She scored a season best 3,209 points and used two solid events to close out the competition. She scored 445 points in the javelin with a toss of 28.33 m and 479 points in the 800 by finishing in 2:48.52.
Emily Brigman (Lancaster) finished 10th in the heptathlon with 3,064 points. She scored the most points on day two in the long jump. She earned 511 points with a leap of 4.82 m. Brigman also earned some points for the women's team with a 6th place finish in the high jump (1.47 m). The mark was her best of the season. Marissa Sly (N. Tonawanda) finished 14th with 2,571 points.
The Pioneer men scored 32 points to earn 11th place out of 28 teams that scored while the women scored 4 points to earn 25th place.
The event wraps up the 2017-18 athletic year at Alfred State. The track & field program had an ECAC event winner in both the ECAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
