Witchella Earns National Honor

Alfred State sophomore forward Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) has been named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week. Witchella leads the 8-2 Lady Pioneers in scoring and rebounding.

Witchella's superior presence inside the paint anchored the Pioneers' two wins last week. Edging Penn College of Technology 66-62, Alfred State was led by Witchella's game-high 29 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and six blocks. The sophomore came back with 22 points and 23 rebounds as the Pioneers dismissed Finger Lakes CC (N.Y.), 65-50.

On the year she is averaging 20.2 points per game and 14.9 rebounds. She has recorded nine double-doubles on the year and has scored more than 20 points in each of the Lady Pioneers last seven games.

Withcella, an NJCAA Division II All-American last year, and the Lady Pioneers head to the Onondaga CC Tournament this weekend. They battle Sullivan County CC in their opening contest on Saturday.
