Lady Pioneers Win Regular Season Finale

Four Lady Pioneers finished in double figures as Alfred State defeated SUNY Canton 70-61 in the regular season finale.  The blue & gold improve to 11-10 on the year.

Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) led Alfred State with 17 points (all in the 2nd half).  She added six rebounds and three steals.  Helena Covington (Elmira Free) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.  Briana Meehan (Whitesville) and Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) each finished with 12 points.  Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) had a solid all-around effort with five points, seven boards, and four steals.

Joelle Persy connected on seven 3-pointers and led all scorers with 23 points.  Brianna Sayer finished with 12, Alicia Uhlein had nin, and Janelle Bradish grabbed 14 boards.

Alfred State led most of the way.  The Lady Pioneers led 34-28 and led by as many as 12 in the 2nd half but the Kangaroos crept within five multiple times and within four in the final four minutes but could never get any closer.

The Pioneers shot 40% from the field and hit 16 of their 22 foul shots.  Canton shot just 31.8% and was slowed down by 9 for 19 foul shooting.  Alfred State held a 50 to 43 advantage on the boards and forced 19 turnovers.

Alfred State awaits the seeding for the USCAA Tournament.  The tournament field will be announced on Tuesday at Noon.
