Lady Pioneers End 2014 with Victory

The Alfred State women's basketball team earned a 56-53 victory over Houghton to close out the 2014 portion of their season with a victory. The Lady Pioneers will begin 2015 with a 5-3 mark.

The Lady Pioneers held a slight 23-21 halftime lead. Houghton took back the lead early in the 2nd half and led by as many as three, 34-31, before Alfred State went on a 21 to 7 run to grab their largest lead, 52-41 with 2:59 remaining. The Highlanders rallied to cut the lead to 55-53 with nine seconds remaining but could not get any closer.

Haley Witchella (Oxford) led the blue & gold with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Briana Meehan (Whitesville) connected four 3-pointers and added 14 points while Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) added eight points and six assists. The Lady Pioneers held a 54-34 advantage on the boards.

Hannah Manwaring led Houghton with 20 points while Maisie Pipher added 17 points.

The Lady Pioneers are back in action on January 8th when they host SUNY IT
