Big 2nd Half Leads Lady Pioneers Past Medaille

The Alfred State women's basketball team outscored Medaille 43-25 in the 2nd half as they rallied for a 69-55 victory on Tuesday evening. The win, the Lady Pioneers sixth straight, improves the team to 11-4 on the season.

Medaille jumped out to a 14-4 to start the game and held the lead throughout the 1st half. The Lady Pioneers cut the lead to one late in the half but a three-pointer at the buzzer gave the Mavericks a 30-26 advantage at the break.

The 2nd half featured five ties and three lead changes until the 8:35 mark. The Lady Pioneers trailed 48-46 with 8:35 remaining when they closed the game out on a 23 to 7 to seal the victory.

Haley Witchella (Oxford) continued her solid senior season with another double-double. She was 13 for 19 from the field, finishing with 28 points. She grabbed 13 boards and blocked seven shots.

Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) nearly recorded a triple-double finishing with 13 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists. Briana Meehan (Whitesville) chipped in 15 points and seven boards. The Lady Pioneers shot 39.1% from the field and held a 60 to 41 rebounding advantage.

Lauren Jensen led a trio of Mavs in double figures with 18 points. MarceAnn Dunning had 14 while Alicia Montalvo had a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Medaille shot only 24.3% from the field in the contest.

The Lady Pioneers continue their busy stretch and will look to add to their winning streak on Thursday when they travel to Pitt-Titusville for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
