Q&A with Joselyn Johnson

Q&A with Joselyn Johnson

The Alfred State women's basketball team opened up their season this weekend. Recently the sports information staff asked junior guard Joselyn Johnson (Geneva) a few questions about the 2015-16 season.

Johnson has played in 33 career games and has scored 75 points, grabbed 55 rebounds, and has 20 steals.

What type of identity do you think this team will have?

I believe that we will play a very fast paced game along with strong defense.

What's the chemistry been like thus far on the young season?

Our team this season is very close. We get along very well, are capable of taking constructive criticism well, and overall enjoy being around each other and sharing the same passion.

What are some of the team's strengths and weaknesses?
We are very good at playing well together when we are all on the same page. We know how each one of us plays and we are able to adjust to each specific characteristic that we possess. Unfortunately, we aren't on the same page as often as we'd like and that throws our game off.
In addition to winning a championship? Does this team have any other goals? If so, what are they?

We really want to keep this bond that we've created between each other and have fun doing it. A goal of ours is to push each other to our limits so that we can all shine and to play a very selfless game.

How has Coach Boyd been getting you prepared for the start of the season?

Coach Boyd allows us to scrimmage against each other a lot to get used to playing with one another. We do a lot of defensive drills because come game time, we seem to lack that. She sees the potential that we sometimes don't see in ourselves and pushes us to be better than we are every day.

What have you done over the summer, and thus far this school year to prepare yourself for the 2015-2016 season.

Over the summer and thus far in the school year I've tried focusing on staying in shape and learning to calm my nerves and relax. I've also been working on perfecting my shot, finding my range, and driving to the basket.

Who would win in an arm wrestling competition on this team?

I would say that Bre (Gleaton) would probably win in an arm wrestling competition.

Who do you consider to be a mentor or a role model in the WNBA?

Since her years at Uconn I've always looked up to Maya Moore as a mentor she is very well rounded and can seem to do it all.

Do you have a favorite basketball player?

My favorite basketball player has to be Michael Jordan.
