Fast Start Helps Pioneers Hop Past Roos

The Alfred State women's basketball team opened up the game on a 14 to 1 run as they earned their 10th win of the season 56-38 over SUNY Canton. The blue & gold improve to 10-6 on the year.

The Pioneers jumped out to the 14-1 lead in the first five minutes of the game. At the end of the 1st quarter, the blue & gold led 20-8 and held a 32-19 advantage at the break. In the 2nd half, the Pioneers added to their lead and led by as many as 24.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) recorded another double-double to lead the blue & gold. She finished with 20 points, 17 rebounds, and four blocks. Steffanie Preston (Groton) and Kimberly Levee (Dansville) each finished with 10 and Allison Danielak (Brockport) chipped in six.

The Pioneers shot 40.7% from the field, was 2 for 8 from three, and hit 6 of their 10 foul shot attempts.

Randi Conway led the Roos with nine points and 10 boards while Tyler Barbato finished with 8. Canton shot 17.1% from the field for the game.
The Pioneers continue their weekend roadtrip tomorrow when they travel to SUNY Delhi.
