Bialecki Records Big Night at Medaille

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) scored 29 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and blocked seven shots but Medaille connected on eight 3-pointers as they defeated Alfred State 89-71 on Friday evening. Bialecki was one of three Pioneers in double figures.

Alfred State scored the first eight points of the game but the Mavericks bounced right back and jumped out to a 28-18 lead after the 1st quarter. They added to their lead, 51-32, at the half after shooting 48.6%. They connected on four of their 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter to expand their lead to 75-51. The blue & gold outscored Medaille 20 to 14 but could not get closer than 16.

Bialecki was 14 for 25 for her 29 points. 11 of her 17 rebounds were on the defensive boards and she added three assists. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) also had a double-double finishing with 17 points and 11 assists. Janae Gibson (Bronx/Pelham Prep) netted 17 and grabbed six boards.

The Pioneers shot 47% from the game but were slowed down by 30 turnovers and were out-rebounded 46 to 39.

Morgan Kennedy led Medaille with 26 points and 13 boards while Dani Reinwald finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Breanna Walker connected on three of the Maverick 3-pointers and finished with 17 points. 

The Mavericks (1-1) shot 42.1% from the field, were 8 for 27 from three, and hit 17 of their 25 foul shot attempts.

The blue & gold are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Keuka for a 7 p.m. contest with the Wolves.
