Buffalo State Wins Back and Forth Affair

Alfred State and Buffalo State traded 2nd half leads but the Bengals hit four 3-pointers in the 4th quarter and held off a late Pioneer rally to earn the 62-56 victory in a competitive contest on Tuesday evening.
The Bengals led throughout the 1st half. They held a 19-10 lead after the 1st quarter and led by as many as ten before the Pioneers chipped back into the game and went into halftime trailing only by five, 31-26. The blue & gold came out firing in the 3rd quarter and scored the first seven points to grab their first lead of the game, 33-31. The game went back and forth the rest of the quarter and the Pioneers headed to the final stanza with a 41-40 lead.
Buffalo State connected on their first three shots of the 4th quarter to regain the lead, 48-41. They built their lead to 58-47 with just over two minutes remaining before the Pioneers but on a late game push. The Pioneers cut the lead to 58-56 with 16 seconds left after Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) banked in a three. The three was the 5th night for Anderson. Liv LeBarron connected on all four of her foul shots in the final moments to seal the victory.
Anderson finished the night with a team high 22 points. She was 7 for 12 from the field and 5 for 7 from three. Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) recorded a double-double finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocks. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) finished with six points and nine assists and Kelly Kane (Wellsville) chipped in six.
LeBarron led the Bengals (2-3) with 25 points and nine boards. She hit nine of her 10 foul shots on the day. Grace Licata connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 11 off the bench while Katie Villarini chipped in 10.
Alfred State shot 36.8% from the floor, 47.4% from three, and 55.6% from the foul line while Buffalo State shot 29.9% from the floor, 34.8% from the three, and 63.6% from the foul line. The Bengals held a slight 47 to 45 rebounding advantage and also forced the Pioneers into 23 turnovers.
The Pioneers will enjoy a few days off before returning to action on Friday when they host Houghton College. Tip-off vs. the Highlanders is at 5:30 p.m.
