Pediatric Cancer Fundraiser and Sock Toss Highlight Friday Basketball Doubleheader

There will be plenty of action surrounding the Alfred State basketball doubleheader vs. cross county rival Houghton College on Friday evening. The women's basketball team will be hosting a pediatric cancer fundraiser while the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be hosting a Sock Toss.

The women's basketball team has partnered with the Go4theGoal Foundation for a fundraiser to help the fight against pediatric cancer. Pediatric cancer is leading cause of death of children by disease and less than 4% of federal funding is dedicated to pediatric cancer research. The team will be selling bracelets and accepting donations to help the battle. The team will also be wearing gold shoelaces as they compete vs. the Highlanders. In partnership with the women's basketball team's efforts for Go4theGoal, the SAAC will be hosting a Sock Toss during halftime of each game. Fans are encouraged to bring new socks to the game that will be tossed at targets on the court at halftime. Members of the SAAC will also have socks to purchase for a $1 at the gate with all money raised from those sales being added to the donations to Go4theGoal. Those socks that land in one of the targets will be eligible for prizes. After the halftime promotion, the socks will be donated to the Wilmot Cancer Center and the Ronald McDonald House.

The doubleheaders is also an Athletes for Athletes event where Pioneer student-athletes can earn incentive points for the Pioneer Cup by attending the game.

The women's contest between the Pioneers and Highlanders tips-off at 5:30 p.m. while the men are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
