Pioneers Wrap up Season

The Alfred State women's basketball team were tripped up 71-56 at SUNY Canton as they wrapped up the 2017-18 season. The Roos used a big 3rd quarter to pull away from the Pioneers.

Alfred State and Canton were knotted up at 9-9 after the 1st quarter. The Roos led 27-19 in the 2nd quarter but the Pioneers fought back and ended the half on a 10-0 run to hold the light two point advantage at the break. Canton scored the first eight points of the 2nd half and never looked back. The outscored the blue & gold 20 to 9 in the 3rd quarter and fought off every Pioneer rally in the 4th quarter. Alfred State trailed 53-50 with 5:42 but Canton finished the game on a 18 to 3 run to seal the victory.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) recorded her 16th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She finishes her outstanding three-year career at Alfred State with 1,141 points, 674 rebounds, and 232 blocks.

Kelly Kane (Wellsville) and Emily Benes (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy) both came off the bench and scored nine points while April Acosta (Bronx/Evander Childs) finished with six points and five steals.

Taylor Saltus hit five 3-pointers and led the Roos (12-13) with 27 points. Antanasia Chambers had a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards while Jennifer Morgan-Aubin came off the bench and had 11.

The Pioneers were 7-6 in 2018 and finish the season 9-13.
