Anderson Hits Nine from Deep

Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) hit nine three-pointers as Alfred State battled Villa Maria on Thursday. The Vikings improved to 17-2 with a 89-69 win.

The Vikings led throughout the game. They led 22-12 at the end of the 1st and 42-27 but was able to push the lead out in the 2nd half before the Pioneers put together a strong 4th quarter in which they outscored their opponents 23-16.

Anderson was 9 for 15 from beyond the arc and finished with a game and career high 27 points. Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) finished with 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to record another double-double. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) added 12 points while Emily Kelley (Andover) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

The Pioneers shot 31.5% from the field, hit 11 of 28 from beyond the three point arc, and was 12 for 18 from the foul line. Villa shot 40.2% from the field, hit 9 of 36 three point attempts, and was 6 for 9 from the foul line. The Vikings held a 60 to 47 advantage on the boards.

Shaquana Owens had a monster night to lead the the Vikings. She scored 26 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and was credited with nine blocks, eight assists, and eight assists. Armoni Jordan finished with 20 points, Bianca Brown had 14, and Nina Cray had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. 

The Pioneers are slated to be on the court again on Saturday when they host Valley Forge. Opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.
