Pioneers Race Past Broncos

Five Pioneers finished in double figures as Alfred State raced past SUNY Delhi 80-54 to complete the season sweep of the Broncos. The Pioneers have now won two straight contests.

The Pioneers never trailed in the game. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 18-9 after the 1st quarter and 42-25 at the break. The continued to push the lead in the 2nd half and led by as many as 32 early in the 4th quarter.

Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) hit four 3-pointers and led Alfred State with 20 points. Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, Emily Kelley (Andover) finished with 14 points and eight boards, and Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) chipped in 11. Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) came off the bench and added 10 points. 

The Pioneers shot a blazing 55.6% in the 2nd quarter and 61.1% in the 3rd. They finished the game shooting 43.8% (35 for 80) from the field, hit 7 of 18 from beyond the 3-point line, and were 3 for 4 from the foul line.

Kiera Holland led Delhi with 17 points and seven boards. Katelyn Lewis had 14 points and nine boards while Sam Acuna had 12. The Broncos shot 33.3% for the day from the field, 26.3% from three, and was 3 for 8 from the foul line.

Alfred State held a 51 to 43 advantage on the boards and forced Delhi into 17 turnovers. The Pioneers outscored the Broncos 46 to 26 in the pain.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday evening when they host Villa Maria at 5:30 p.m.
