Pioneers Take the Bite out of the Gators

The Alfred State women's basketball team rolled past Pine Manor 77-53 in their regular season finale. The Pioneers finished with four players in double-figures as they improve to 6-17 on the year.

The blue & gold scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. They led 18-10 after the 1st quarter, 37-21 at half, and 51-34 after three. The Pioneers outscored the Gators 26-19 and led by as many as 30.

Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) conned on four 3-pointers and led the team with 18 points and added 10 boards. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) finished with 17, Emily Kelley (Andover) scored 15, and Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) capped off a solid week with seven points and 13 assists (second time this week she had 13 assists in a game). Kierra Jackson (Hempstead) had six off the bench.

The Pioneers were 31 for 71 from the field (43.7 %), 8 for 20 from three (40%), and 7 for 7 from the foul line.

Aleah Lauti led Pine Manor with 16 points while Kristen Harris had 12 points and 21 rebounds. The Gators were 19 for 67 from the field (28.4%), 2 for 13 from three (15.4%), and 13 for 24 from the foul line (54.2%).

Alfred State now shifts their focus to the ACAA Tournament. They are the #4 seed and will take on #1 seed Thomas More in the semifinals on Saturday (2/23) at Noon. All the action of the women's and men's ACAA Tournament will be held inside the Orvis Activities Center.
