Pioneers Tame Panthers to Earn 1st AMCC Victory

The Alfred State women's basketball team earned their first AMCC victory with a 74-61 defeat of Pitt Bradford on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers are now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The game featured only two ties (both early in the 1st quarter). Alfred State never trailed, they led 15-11 after the 1st quarter, 40-30 at the half, and 62-44 after three. The Pioneers pushed the lead to as many as 22 in the 4th quarter before Bradford finished the game on a 10-1 run. 

Alfred State outscored Pitt Bradford 48 to 24 in the paint and scored 23 points on the break compared to just four for the Panthers.

Four the Pioneers five starters finished in double figures. Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) led the way with 19 points while Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) added 16. Emily Kelley (Andover) had a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards while Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) chipped in 14. Alfred State shot 41.4% from the floor and hit 13 of 15 foul shots in the contest.

Jasmin Miller led UPB with 20 points while Shaelyn Snipes had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Panthers shot 27.4% from the field and turned the ball over 22 times.

The blue & gold travel to Penn State Altoona on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
