Pioneers Close out 2019 Portion of the Season

Hilbert went on a 22-2 run in the 1st half and held off all Alfred State rallies as they defeated the Pioneers 67-58 in the finale of the 2019 portion of the schedule.

Alfred State led 12-6 early and led 15-11 before Taylor Corts hit a three pointer at the buzzer to make it 15-14 after ten minutes. The Hawks built on that basket and scored 19 of the first 21 points to build a 33-17 lead. At the half, Hilbert led 37-21. Alfred State started closing the gap with a big 3rd quarter. They outscored Hilbert 22-15 but couldn't get much closer in the 4th as both teams scored 15 in the final ten minutes.

Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) had a huge 2nd half as she finished with 23 of her game high 25 points. She also grabbed 16 boards to record the double-double. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) finished with 12 while Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) added 11 points and eight assists. Emily Kelley (Andover) ended the night with six points, eight boards, and four blocks.

Emily Gawlak led the Hawks (8-3, 5-1 AMCC) with 20 points while Ashley Repine had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Alfred State shot 31.3% from the field, 22.2% from three (4 for 18), and 57.1% (4 for 7) from the line while Hilbert shot 38.1% from the field, 23.5% (4 for 17) from three, and 68.2% (15 for 22) from the foul line. The Hawks held a 53 to 47 advantage on the boards but their bench outscored the Pioneers 21 to 2.

The Pioneers are off until January 4th when they return to AMCC play with a 4 p.m. home contest vs. Mt. Aloysius.
