Kelley and Davis Score in Double Digits in Hilbert Loss

Emily Kelley (Andover) and My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) scored in double digits in the Alfred State women's basketball 62-51 road loss to the Hilbert College Hawks Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers move to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the AMCC while the Hawks improve to 6-15 overall and 5-7 in the conference.

Alfred State shot 34% in field goals, 64.7% in free throws, picked up 28 rebounds and scored 23 points off Hilbert's 20 turnovers. The Hawks recorded 40% in field goals, 91.7% in free throws and had 46 rebounds.

Kelley tied her season high of 19 points, which she has scored four times this season. She went 7-for-9 in free throws and added three rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist.

Davis scored 12 points, had three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) chipped in eight points, a team-high of six rebounds and two assists. Gretchen Hendrickson added seven points and three rebounds.

The Hawks led 28-15 at halftime but the Pioneers were able to hold them to just eight points in the second quarter.

Alfred State recorded 12 points in the third quarter and were down by 19 heading into the final quarter.

Hilbert took their largest advantage of 21 points to start the fourth quarter.

The Pioneers picked up their pace and out-scored the Hawks 24-16 in the final quarter to cut the lead to 11 point but their comeback fell short.

The women are on the road Saturday, Feb. 5 to play AMCC opponent Penn State-Altoona at 2 p.m.
