Pioneers Dominate Fourth Quarter for Comeback win over Penn State Altoona

The Alfred State women's basketball team dominated in the fourth quarter for a 76-70 comeback win over the Penn State Altoona Lions Saturday evening inside Adler Arena.

The Pioneers improve to 10-9 overall and 7-5 in the AMCC while the Lions move to 4-16 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

Alfred State shot 44.3% in field goals, went 20-for-24 in free throws and picked up 45 rebounds.

Penn State Altoona recorded 38% in field goals, were 9-for-11 in free throws and had 38 rebounds.

My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) led the Pioneers with 23 points, tying her career high, had four assists and went 9-for-9 in free throws.

Janna Pena (Brooklyn/ACLA) double-doubled with a career high of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Maisy Booth (Canisteo Greenwood) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Emily Kelley (Andover) and Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) both chipped in 11 points. Shaulis picked up nine rebounds and Kelley had seven.

Alfred State started the game with a six-point run and Penn State Altoona moved quickly to catch up. The first quarter was tied three times before the Lions took a 17-16 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Pioneers tied the game 27-27 with 4:22 on the clock and took a three-point edge 24 seconds later.

Penn State Altoona out-shot Alfred Sate 10-4 in the final two minutes to head into halftime with a 41-36 lead.

Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter and the Lions took their largest lead of 10 points with 4:33 remaining in the third.

The Pioneers picked up the pace in the fourth quarter and out-scored Penn State Altoona 29-18 for the come-from-behind win.

Alfred Sate was down by eight points with 9:47 on the clock but went on a nine-point run with five minutes left to take and keep the lead for the remainder of the game.

The women start a three-game home stretch on Wednesday, Feb. 9 against AMCC opponent Penn State-Behrend with a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
