Wrestlers Win WNYAC Opener

The Alfred State wrestling team defeated Jamestown CC 25-20 in their season opening WNYAC match.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead with forfeit victories at 184 (Josh Lord - Owego Free), 197 (Travis Harvey - Alfred Almond), and heavyweight (Daniel Ognibene - Alexander).

Jamestown rallied and won the next four matches to cut it to 18-17. Anthony Carome (Cincinnati, OH) won a hard fought 5-4 win at 157 lb. with a late takedown to make it 21-17. The Jayhawks earned a 7-5 win at 165 lbs to cut it to 21-20 to make the final match determine the match winner.

In the final match at 174 lb. Conner Fox (Midlakes) controlled the match from the start and earned a 11-3 major decision to seal the Pioneers victory.

The blue & gold head to Ursinus College on Saturday to take part in the Ursinus Fall Brawl. Action is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
