Wrestlers Open Season at Brockport

Six Alfred State wrestlers earned at least two victories as the Pioneers opened up their 2015-16 season at the non-scoring Golden Eagle Invitational at Brockport. 

Nathan Sisler (Balston Spa) registered the highest finish of any Pioneer. He finished 2nd in the 174 lb. bracket. He pinned Griffin Kent (Niagara CCC) in 5:00 and then defeated James Shreck (Brockport) 6-5 to advance to the finals. Sisler was downed by Tracy Cistrunk (NCCC) in the finals.

George VanValen (Ithaca) earned 3rd place finish at 174 lbs. with a 3-1 day. He pinned Noah Jones (NCCC) in his first match fell 9-7 to Cistrunk but rebounded by pinning Kent in 2:28 and defeating Shreck 18-0 to earn 3rd place.

Michael Boyle (Cooperstown) was 3rd in the 125 lb. competition. He fell in his first match but rebounded to earn a 6-2 victory over a Ryan Thierman and then won 20-8 over Joshua Grisewood (Niagara CCC).

Blake Engebretsen (Central Square) was 2-1 and earned 3rd place in 165. After falling in his opening match to Kaydon Newton (NCCC) hed bounced back for a 10-1 wn over Jacob Willis and a 6-3 decision over Timothy Rathbun.

In the heavyweight bracket Riley Andrews (York) and Mitchell Lattuca (Lancaster) both were 2-2. Andrews pinned Tyler Aitcheson (Jamestown CC) but lost a 6-1 decision to Jacob Morris (Brockport) in the semifinals. He defeated Lattuca 4-1 but fell 11-7 to Jasari Jones (JCC) in the 3rd place match. Lattuca pinned Cedrick Tankksley (JCC) before falling 6-2 to Ryan Mattison (Brockport). He won a 2-0 deicions over Dequan Brooks (NCCC) but fell to Andrews in the consolation semis.

The Golden Eagle Invitational featured wrestlers from Brockport, Jamestown CC, and Niagara CC.

Alfred State is back in action on Friday at the two-day Ithaca Invitational. Action begins at 4 p.m. on Friday.
