Wrestlers Open Season at Brockport

The Alfred State wrestling team had a solid showing as they opened up the 2016-17 season at the Golden Eagle Open hosted by Brockport. The Pioneers had one champion, two runner-ups, and one 3rd place finisher.

George Van Valen (Ithaca) took home the title in the 184 lb. weight class. He defeated TJ Cistruck (Niagara CCC) 16-0 in the semifinals and won a 8-1 decision over Logan Rill (Buffalo) to claim the title.

Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) finished 2nd at 174 and Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) was 2nd at 165.

  • Kremer pinned Sergio Crespo (Niagara CCC) in 1:33 in the quarters and then won 7-5 over Cameron Calderelli (Buffalo) to advance to the finals. In the finals he fell 7-6 in a tight match vs. Richard Mills (Brockport)
  • Almeter won 10-4 over Kaydon Newton (Niagara CCC) in the quarters and won 4-2 over Matthew Russo (Cornell) to secure a spot in the finals. Eric Fasnacht (Buffalo) took the title with a 10-2 win in the finals.

Mitchell Lattuca was 3rd in the heavyweight competition. He pinned Jesse Trout (Brockport) in 2:55 in the quarters. After falling in the semifinals he bounced back with a pin of James Martin and earned 3rd place with another pin of Trout in 2:04.

125 lb. Patrick Lehman (Marathon),149 lb. Mike Galton (Warsaw), and 184 lb. Alex Mongillo (Keshequa) all finished 4th in their brackets.

The Pioneers open up the dual meet portion of their season on Wednesday when they host Brockport. The first match is slated for a 7 p..m. start.
