Kremer Leads Pioneers at Brockport Open

Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) won the 174 lb. weight class to lead Alfred State at the Brockport Open on Saturday. The Pioneers as a team finished 3rd out of the six teams at the competition.

Kremer won 4-2 over Teddy Fleming (Brockport) in the quarterfinals, downed James Schreck (Brockport) 1-0 in the semifinals and then defeated Andrew Garcia (Cornell Unattached) 7-2 in the title bout. Kremer is now 12-5 on the year.

George Van Valen (Ithaca) was 3-1 on the day at 184 lbs. and finished 2nd. He pinned Sergio Crespo (Niagara CCC), pinned Eugene Latson (Niagara CCC), fell 6-1 to Max Dean (FL Wrestling Club), and won 16-0 over Alex Kelly (Niagara CCC).

Patrick Lehman (Marathon) split a pair of matches at 125 lbs. and earned 2nd. He pinned Jeremy Pueute (FL Wrestling Club) but fell to Jonathan Haas (Brockport).

Brandyn Whitacre (Jamestown) and Jeffrey Andrews (Randolph) both finished 3rd. Whitacre was 3-2 on the day in the 197 lb. weight class. He pinned David Hernandez (Niagara CCC), pinned Brandon Barbagelta, and pinned John Fuino (Niagara CCC). Andrews was 3-1 in the heavyweight competition. He fell in his first match but rebounded with a pin of Mitchell Lattuca, a pin of Alex Mears, and a 5-2 win over David Carnie (Niagara CCC).

Tristan Almeter (Iroquois) was 4th at 165 lbs. while Alex Mears (Averill Park) was 5th at heavyweight.

The Pioneers 74.5 points on the day. The hosts won the competition with 142.

The Pioneers travel to Oswego next weekend to compete at the Empire Collegiate Championships. Matches are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
