Pioneers Win Twice at Penn College Tri-Match

The Alfred State wrestling team won both of their matches at Penn College on Saturday afternoon. They defeated Bergen CC 36-12 and then defeated the hosts 35-21. The Pioneers are now 4-4 in dual matches this season.

The Pioneers used six forfeit victories to earn the victory over Bergen CC. Ryan Mattison (Brockport), Patrick Lehman (Marathon), Mike Galton (Warsaw), Anthony Miraglia (Byron Bergen), Jacob Cino (Williamson), and George Van Valen (Ithaca) all earned forfeit victories.

In their match vs. Penn College the Pioneers fell behind 15-6 after the first four matches with their lone points coming from a forfeit victory by Lehman. The Pioneers then won the next three matches via forfeit, Clay Baron (Caledonia Mumford), Satchel Holder (Babylon), and Galton, to gain the 27-12 lead. Miraglia earned a 18-3 win at 165 to add to the lead and following a Wildcat victory at 174, Van Valen ended the competition with a convincing 18-0 victory at 184.

The Pioneers head to Brockport on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match with the Eagles.
