Four Named to All-Academic Team by ECWC

Four members of the Alfred State wrestling team were honored on Friday as the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) officially published its annual list of All-Academic Team selections for the 2019-20 season on Friday afternoon. The conference honored 56 wrestlers in this season's release, marking the second consecutive year that the All-Academic Team topped the 50-mark.

The Pioneers increased their total from a lone wrestler last year to four student-athletes being honored following the 2019-20 season. Cale Bartosch (Palmyra Macedon), Paul Knapp (Dundee), Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood), and Kyle Fitgerald (Constableville/South Lewis) were honored by the ECWC.

  • Bartosch had a 4.0 GPA in Electrical Engineering Technology during the Fall 2019 semester and finished the season wish six victories.
  • Knapp had a 3.67 GPA in Welding this past semester and competed in 19 matches this season.
  • Ilges earned a 3.53 GPA in Electrical Engineering Technology last semester and earned 13 wins (six pins) during his freshman campaign.
  • Fitzgerald earned a 3.43 GPA in the Fall in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He was 3rd on the team with 18 wins and recently was named an NWCA Academic Academic All-American.

Recipients of this honor must have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher (through the last eligible grading period of the current academic year), or have maintained a 3.30-or-better over the past two completed semesters. Wrestlers must also have competed in three separate events during the season in order to gain consideration. Freshmen and transfers that have been enrolled full-time for at least one semester are eligible to receive this honor.
