Peterson and Galton Advance at NCAA Mideast Regionals

The Alfred State wrestling team competed in Day 1 of the NCAA Mideast Regionals on Saturday hosted by Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA.

Sean Peterson (Islip) and Mike Galton (Warsaw) are the first Pioneers in program history to become NCAA Regional place winners after finishing eighth on day one. Galton was seeded fifth and Peterson seventh heading into today.

Peterson went 3-1 at 141 and Galton went 2-1 at 174 to advance to the second day of the tournament.

Peterson-

Prelim - Peterson won by tech fall over Ricky Caamano (Muhlenberg College) (TF-1.5 7:00 (16-1)).

Champ. Round 1 - Peterson won by fall over Brandon Judge (University Of Scranton) (Fall 6:00).

Quarterfinal - Travis Jones (Ithaca College) won by tech fall over Peterson (TF-1.5 2:28 (16-0)).

Cons. Round 2 - Peterson 3-1 won by major decision over Jon Mejia (New Jersey City University) (MD 13-5).

Galton-

Champ. Round 1 - Galton won by decision over Jackson Brandt (Ursinus College) (Dec 8-2).

Quarterfinal - Will Laughlin (University of Scranton) won by decision over Galton (Dec 4-2).

Cons. Round 2 - Galton won by fall over Jared Zenie (College at Brockport) (Fall 1:16).

Other Pioneer Finishes:

Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) went 2-2 at 197 and finished his season winning 30 total matches.

Anthony Miraglia (Byron Bergen) went 1-2 at 149.

Ryan Nugent (Newfane) went 1-2 at 157.

Sean Malenfant (Averill Park) went 1-2 at 165 and finishes his season winning 14 total matches.

Tyler Pelech (Ridge) went 0-2 at 184.

Nicholas Barrett (Avoca) went 1-2 at 285.

Peterson and Galton will compete in Day 2 on Sunday. A first-place individual finish at regionals will guarantee a national qualification. This year's NCAA Division III Championships will take place on March 11-12 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
