Alfred State Wrestling Sweeps AMCC Quad Meet

The Alfred State Wrestling team swept today's AMCC Quad Meet with three wins. With victories over Pitt.- Bradford, Penn.- St. Behrend and Hiram the Pioneers improve to 9-1 in duals this season.

The Pioneers defeated Pitt.- Bradford 34-18. After the Pioneers fell in the early bouts to trail 12-6, Sean Peterson won by pinfall to tie the match up at 12. Justin Smith (Rushville, NY / Marcus Whitman) and Cale Bartosch (Palmyra, NY / Palmyra Macedon) kept the momentum on Alfred State's side with victories in the 157 and 165 matches. With the Pioneers up 18-12, Pitt.- Bradford claimed the 174 lb bout with a pinfall victory to tie the match back up at 18. Sean Malenfant (Averill Park, NY / Averill Park) won by pinfall and Blake Ilges (Canisteo, NY / Canisteo Greenwood) won by major decision to give the Pioneers the victory down the home stretch.

The Ox Gang defeated Penn.- St. Behrend 51-4 and won 7 bouts by pinfall. Ben Lloyd (Alfred, NY / Alfred-Almond), Sean Peterson, Justin Smith, Cale Bartosch, Johnny Layfield (Wellsville, NY / Wellsville) Sean Malenfant, and Blake Ilges all won by pinfall. Evan Albrecht (Patchogue, NY / Patchogue-Medford) finished the match off with a heavyweight win by decision.

Alfred State finished the day against Hiram and won 42-6. Brandon Tanner (Rush, NY / Rush Henrietta) started the match for the Pioneers with a decision victory in the 125 lb bout. Elijah Moshenek (Ringgold, VA / Dan River) followed with a 15-6 major decision victory and Zachary Levey (Horseheads, NY / Horseheads) followed with a pinfall win in his debut as an Alfred State Pioneer. Justin Smith collected another pinfall win and Cale Bartosch followed with a tech fall win 20-2. Justin Hoffman (Hadley, NY / Hadley-Luzerne) and Sean Malenfant won the 184 and 197 bouts for Alfred State, both by pinfall.

The Pioneers were dominant in all three matches against AMCC opponents today. They will look to keep the momentum rolling as they head to the Muhl Winter Duals next weekend on January 14.
