The Alfred State women's soccer continued their solid play to start the 2017 season with an impressive 1-0 victory over SUNY Poly on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers are now 3-1 on the season and have outscored their opponents 15 to 3.

Melissa Minetti (Livonia) scored the lone goal of the game 10:45 into the contest when she took a crossing pass from Kylie Newman (Waverly) and was able to strike it with her left foot past the Wildcat goalkeeper.

The Pioneers had numerous chances to add to the lead but Angela Bartlett made a handful of great saves to keep the score 1-0. The Pioneers held a 12 to 8 shot advantage in the game (8 to 5 in the 1st half).

Allison Danielak (Brockport) made eight saves in net for the Pioneers to record the shutout while Bartlett made seven for SUNY Poly. The Pioneer defense unit of Chloe Cox (Tuscon, AZ), Jocelyn Brittingham (Hornell), Taryn Dechow (Randolph), and Allison VanScoter (Arkport) played stellar defense in front of Danielak and allowed very few scoring opportunities.

The blue & gold hit the road this weekend for a pair of games. They tangle with Christendom (VA) at Noon on Saturday and battle Penn State Abington at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
