Pioneers Shutout Canton to Claim ACAA Title

The Alfred State women's soccer team shutout SUNY Canton 2-0 to claim the 2017 ACAA Tournament title. The Pioneers conclude the season with a 12-4 overall record with nine of those victories coming via shutouts.

The Pioneers got on the board 21:40 into the game when Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) drilled a shot into the back of the net from five yards out. Julia Yanarella (Wappinger Falls/Roy Ketcham) was credited with the assist on Salatel's teams leading 13th goal of the season. The game remained 1-0 until the final moments of the 1st half when Brooke Geibel (Arkport) netted her 3rd goal of the season after getting a pass from Melissa Mineti (Livonia). The Pioneers held a 8 to 1 shot advantage in the 1st half.

Neither team could net a goal in the 2nd half as Alfred State held a 10 to 5 shot advantage.  Allison Danielak (Brockport) made all four of her saves to perserve the victory, the shutout and the championship. Danielak was part of all nine shutouts and finishes the season with a 0.63 goals against average and 65 saves. Allison Wakefield made 10 saves for the Roos.

Chloe Cox (Tucson, AZ) was named the Tournament MVP while Yanarella, Jocelyn Brittingham (Hornell), and Kylie Newman (Waverly) were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Pioneers finish the season winners of their eight (seven by shutouts) of their last name games. During that stretch they outscored their opponents 27 to 2.

On the year the blue & gold outscored their opponents 50 to 10.
