Pioneers and Eagles Battle to a Scoreless Draw

Alfred State and Elmira opened up the 2018 season with a double overtime scoreless draw. Both teams had a couple of chances but neither could find the back of the net.

The Pioneers held a slight 4 to 3 shot advantage in the 1st half but were credited with seven shots (compared to three for Elmira) in the 2nd half. The best scoring chance in the contest came in the 2nd half when Michayla Salatel's (Geneseo) shot from just outside the box was tipped by Gabe Carmona off the cross bar and over the net. Neither team generated too many opportunities in the pair of overtime sessions.

Alfred State finished with a 12 to 7 shot advantage in the game while Elmira took 9 corner kicks compared to the Pioneers 7. Madison Papaj (Holley) made three saves to record the shutout in her collegiate contest in net. Carmona played the final 65 minutes of the game and made one save while Meghan Ray played the first 45 minutes and recorded a save as well.

The Pioneers head to SUNY Delhi on Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest with the Broncos.
