Late Goal Lifts Potsdam over Pioneers in Tight Match

Brooke Falsion's broke a 1-1 tie with 4:59 remaining to lift Potsdam to a tight 2-1 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The Bears improve to 7-1 on the year while the Pioneers are 2-2-1 on the year.

Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) gave the blue & gold an early lead 7:30 into the contest when she scored after getting a nice set-up pass from Abby King (Holland). The goal was the third of the season of Salatel. With just under 10 minutes left in the 1st half, the Bears tied it up when Lexi Dean scored her 4th of the season after getting a pass from Rylie Murray. Potsdam held a 9 to 3 shot advantage in the 1st half.

The Bears continued to put pressure on the Pioneers in the 2nd half but the defense anchored by freshman goalie Madison Papaj (Holley) kept the game tied at 1-1 until Falsion's 9th goal of the season put Potsdam in the lead for the first time in the game. The Bears held a 18 to 2 shot advantage in the 2nd frame.

Papaj finished the night with 12 saves while Delphine Leonard made one save in the victory for Potsdam.

The Pioneers hit the road on Thursday afternoon to take on Hilbert. The match is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
