Pioneers and Bobcats Battle to a Tie

Alfred State and Bryant & Stratton battled to a 4-4 tie on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 3-2-2 on the year while the Bobcats are 3-1-1.

Maggie Meyer (Red Creek) started the scoring when she danced around the defense and fired a shot in the top of the net to give the Pioneers a lead 11:16 into the contest. Olivia Welton (Orchard Park) made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when she sent a long shot to the top corner of the net after a corner kick by Meyer.

The Bobcats answered back with three goals in 3:18 to grab their only lead of the game. Amela Racic scored in the 37th minute while Portia Davis scored a pair of goals in the 39th and 40th minute to give Bryant & Stratton a 3-2 lead at the half.

Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy) tied the game up in the 57th minute when she netted her team leading 5th goal after a getting a set up pass from Michayla Salatel (Genseo). The Pioneers regained the lead in the 80th minute when Welton scored her second of the game when she sent another long shot that barely crossed the goal line after the shot was blocked by the Bobcat goalie.

With 2:34 remaining, the Bobcats tied the game up when Koemhong Hout slipped one in the net after getting a pass from Davis.

Neither team could find the back of the net for the rest of regulation or in either of the overtime periods. The Pioneers outshot the Bobcats 3-0 in the 1st OT and 4-2 in the 2nd OT.

Madison Papaj (Holley) made five saves in 110 minutes for the Pioneers while Kailee Jasewicz made eight saves for the Bobcats.

Alfred State outshot the Bobcats 29 to 13 in the game and had 13 corner kicks opportunities.

The Pioneers are right back in action on Tuesday evening when they host SUNY Canton at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
