The Alfred State women's soccer team improved to 4-2-2 with a solid 2-0 victory over SUNY Canton on Tuesday evening. The shutout was the third of the season for the blue & gold.
Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) got the Pioneers on the board early when she connected on her 5th goal of the season after a beautiful crossing pass from Melissa Minetti (Livonia).
The game remained 1-0 until the 68th minute when Minetti and Salatel connected again. Julia Yanarella (Wappinger Falls/Roy Ketcham) started the play with a long pass to Minetti who raced towards the box before sliding a pass across to Salatel who cashed in on the open net.
Alfred State held a 23 to 4 shot advantage in the game. Madison Papaj (Holley) continued her solid play in net. She made three saves to record her third shutout of the season. Allison Wakefield made 13 saves in net for the Roos.
The Pioneers hit the road on Saturday when they travel to Buffalo for a 2 p.m. contest vs. Villa Maria.
