Big 2nd Half Leads Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State women's soccer team scored seven times as they defeated Villa Maria 9-0 on Saturday. The Pioneers are unbeaten in their last four matches and are 5-2-2 on the year.

Abby King (Holland) got the Pioneers on the board just 3:25 into the game after getting a pass from Mackenzie Congdon (Hornell). Kelsey Austin (Hornell) made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when she scored her first of the season.

Jessica Williams (Belfast) scored a goal just 51 seconds into the 2nd half after getting a pass from Alyssa Kelly (Wallkill). She added a second goal in the 62nd minute. Kelly scored from Althea Prime (Cherry Valley Springfield) in the 66th minute to make it 5-0. Congdon scored a pair of goals of unassisted goals (71st and 75th minute), Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) scored in the 81st minute, and Madison Papaj (Holley) netted her first career goal to cap the scoring in the 84th minute.

In total seven different Pioneers scored and eight recorded points in the game.

The Pioneers had a 38 to 0 shot advantage in the game. Kathryn Parsons (York) was credited with the shutout while Shaquana Owens made 18 saves for Villa.

The blue & gold are back in action next Saturday when they host SUNY ESF at 4 p.m. The contest is part of the college's Homecoming celebration.
