Streak Reaches Six with Shutout Victory

Seven different Pioneers scored as the Alfred State women's soccer team ran their winning streak to six games with a 9-0 victory over Christendom on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 9-2-2 on the year and are unbeaten in their last eight contests.
 
Melissa Mineti (Livonia) got the Pioneers on the board 10:06 into the game when she headed a shot over the keeper. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) flicked in a goal four minutes later after getting a nice crossing pass from Maggie Meyer (Red Creek). Dannielle O'Buckley (Jamaica/Ansbach) scored on a long shot in the 24th minute after getting a pass from Angela Martone (Candor). Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy) made 4-0 with just under eight minutes left in the half after getting a pass from Jessica Williams (Belfast). Williams capped the scoring in the 1st half when she scored with 1:29 left after getting a pass from Pompa.
 
The Pioneers kept the pressure on in the 2nd half. Meyer scored from Salatel in the 56th minute, Kelsey Austin (Hornell) scored from Althea Prime (Cherry Valley) in the 64th minute and Williams scored a pair. She scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute and then completed the hat trick with a goal in the 73rd minute after getting a set-up pass from Austin.
 
Alfred State held a 33 to 3 shot advantage in the game. Kathryn Parsons (York) made a pair of saves to record the shutout victory.
 
At halftime, the Pioneers honored eight players, Emily Benes (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy), Masyn Hynes (York), Parsons, Allison VanScoter (Arkport), Mineti, O'Buckley, Salatel, and Julia Yanarella (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) that will be wrapping up their Alfred State careers this year. 

The Pioneers are right back in action on Sunday when they travel to Penn State Hazelton for a 2 p.m. contest.
