Pioneers Roll in Home Finale

The Alfred State women's soccer team rolled to its eight straight victory as they downed Pitt Bradford 6-0 on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers are now 11-2-2 on the season and are unbeaten in their last ten matches.

Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy) got the scoring going 4:50 into the contest when she scored after getting a pass from Melissa Mineti (Livonia). The combination of Pompa and Mineti combined again just under nine minutes later to up the lead to 2-0. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) was also credited with an assist. 

Salatel got in the action 1:31 later with her first of the night after getting a pass from Julia Yanarella (Wappinger Falls/Roy Ketcham). Salatel capped the 1st half scoring in the 42nd minute to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead at the break.

Mineti scored her 4th of the season in the 52nd minute after getting a pass from Salatel and Salatel completed her hat trick in the 62nd minute to conclude the scoring in the contest. Salatel now has a team high 15 goals and finished the night with three goals and two assists.

Bradford held a slight 17 to 16 shot advantage in the contest. Madison Papaj (Holley) made six saves to record another shutout.

The blue & gold have now outscored their opponents 39 to 1 during their current winning streak.

Alfred State wraps up the regular season on Tuesday (10/30) when they travel across Allegany County to take on Houghton. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
