Pioneers Fall in Tight AMCC Opener

The Alfred State women's soccer team fell in a tight 1-0 battle to Franciscan as they played their first AMCC contest.

The Barons scored in the 28th minute when Bella Rubino was able to flick a shot into the net after getting a pass from Claire Dawyot. The Barons held a 13-2 shot advantage in the 1st half. 

The Pioneers picked up the offensive pressure in the 2nd half but could not get one by Marita Ostrich. They outshot Franciscan 8-5 in the 2nd.

Ostrich finished with four saves to earn the shutout victory while Gretchen Hendrickson (Canisteo Greenwood) made 12 saves in net in her first collegiate start.

The Pioneers have a week off before hosting Penn State Altoona at 4:15 next Saturday.
