Pioneers Win in Double OT Thriller

The Alfred State women's soccer team won a 4-3 double OT battle with Medaille on Tuesday night.

4:52 into the 2nd OT, Althea Prime (Cherry Valley - Springfield) scored on a long shot (37 yards) that snuck right inside the crossbar to lift the Pioneers to the victory. Mac Congdon (Hornell) set up the shot with a drop pass. Watch the video

Medaille jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 18 minutes of the game. Courtney Kline scored 11:55 into the game and Marissa Campbell scored on a long shot after getting a short pass on a corner kick by Sarah Deering 18:10 in the game.

Alyssa Delany (Hornell) started the rally in the final seconds (36 seconds remaining) of the 1st half. Her corner kick found the head of Grace Donovan (Elma/Iroquois) to make it 2-1 after 45 minutes.

Annaliese Ziemann (Lancaster) tied it up in the 75th minute on a long free kick and the blue & gold took their first lead of the game 2:23 later when Hannah Shadduck (Warren Center, PA) scored after getting a nice set up pass from Abby King (Holland).

Alfred State was seconds away from a 3-2 victory until Kristen Kline was able to make a nice move around the Pioneer defense and score with 48 seconds left in regulation. 

Both teams had chances in the 1st OT but neither could score. 

Medaille (4-6-0, 2-1 AMCC) outshot the Pioneers 22 to 21 in the game. Gretchen Hendrickson (Canisteo Greenwood) made nine saves in the first 70:33 while Laura Mecca (Hamburg) earned the win with a save in the final 34:19.

The Pioneers hit the road for the first time in AMCC play on Saturday when they travel to La Roche for a 4:15 p.m. start.
