Pioneers Defeat Ripon in Florida

The Alfred State women's swimming team defeated Ripon (WI) College in a dual meet as they concluded their annual trip to Florida. The Pioneers outscored the Red Hawks 479-459.

Jessie LaRue (Livonia) won the 100 IM (1:06.53) and the 100 free (1:00.27) to lead the team. She was also part of the 200 medley relay team that won in 2:07.43. In that event she teammed with Hannah Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer), Sarah Stevens (Wellsville), and Elizabeth Drake (Lansing).

Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield) won the 200 free (2:08.82) and Elizabeth Furmanski (Albion) won the 50 fly (31.79). 

Drake was 2nd in the 50 free (28.59) and 2nd in the 100 free (1:02.98), Stevens was 2nd in the 100 IM (1:12.79) and 2nd in the 50 breast (37.58), Julia Urbina (Nesconset/Smithtown East) was 2nd in the 50 fly (31.95) and the 50 back (34.78). The relay team of Samantha Towner (Wayland Cohocton), Lewis, Kelsey Lynch (Wellsville), and Elizabeth Jurs (Elba) finished 2nd in 1:58.30. 

The Pioneer divers head to Erie CC on Friday for a 6 p.m. competition while the swimming team heads to Erie on Saturday for the ECC Invitational which is slated for a Noon start.
