Pioneers Split on Day Two of Keuka Invitational

Alfred State split a pair of matches on day two of the Keuka Invitational. The Pioneers lost a tight 3-2 battle with Hartwick (25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 21-25, 8-15) but rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Hilbert (25-9, 25-11, 25-16). The blue & gold are now 3-2 on the season.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport) led the way with 20 kills and seven digs in the five set marathon with Hartwick. Madison Webster (Corning) finished with 17 kills and 17 digs, Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 41 assists and had five of the teams nine aces, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) collected 17 digs.

Maira Sorriento led the Hawks with 21 kills, Jamie Ready passed out 44 assists, and Katie Boak had 20 digs.

Raichlin passed out 29 assists and had nine aces vs. Hilbert. Webster had 10 kills and five digs in the victory, Perkins had nine kills, and Alyssa Martin (Portville) collected five kills. The Pioneers had 20 service aces and hit .301 in the contest.

Torianna LaWand led Hilbert with six kills and seven digs.

The Pioneers host Penn State Behrend on Friday evening. First serve is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
