Pioneers Swept by Lions

Penn State Behrend evened their record at 5-5 with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Alfred State on Friday evening. The Pioneers fall to 3-3 on the year.

Behrend broke a 4-4 tie in the 1st set by rattling off eight of the next nine points. They never looked back and took the opening set 25-14. In the 2nd set, Behrend led throughout but Alfred State put the pressure on late as they closed the gap to 24-22 by collecting four straight points but could not get any closer. In the 3rd set, a late run broke a 16-16 tie and gave the Lions a 22-16 lead. The Pioneers cut it to 23-22 but could not tie it up.

Madison Webster (Corning) led the way for the blue & gold with nine kills and 11 digs. Alyssa Martin (Portville) chipped in six kills, Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 24 assists, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) had nine digs. The Pioneers hit only .067 in the contest and had nine service errors.

Amanda Henry led Behrend with 12 kills while Lexi Irwin chipped in 27 assists and eight kills. Madison Clapper added a team high 12 digs. The Lions collected a .256 hitting percentage in the game.

The Pioneers are right back on the court tomorrow when they travel to Penn College for a tri-match. They take on Lancaster Bible College at 2 p.m. and the hosts at 4 p.m.
