Spikers Split at Penn College

The Alfred State volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at Penn College. The blue & gold fell 21-25, 15-25, 21-25 to Lancaster Bible in their first match and then rebounded for a 25-9, 25-19, 25-17 victory over the hosts. The Pioneers are now 4-4 on the season.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had 11 kills and six digs in the opening match vs. Lancaster Bible. Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 22 assists and Madison Webster (Corning) led the way with six service aces and 15 digs. The Pioneers struggled with a .009 hitting percentage.

Aleah Haeyworth registered 11 kills and eight digs to lead Lancaster while Hannah Gibe finished with 10 kills. Allison Shuey passed out 35 assists and Suzanna Whiting had eight digs. The Chargers hit .326 on the game and recorded 10 total team blocks.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers recorded 17 service aces as they downed the Wildcats. Webster recorded 12 kills, 11 digs, and four service aces, Raichlin passed out 24 assists and had four service aces, and Perkins chipped in eight kills. Alfred State recorded a .225 hitting percentage for the game.

Peyton Homan and Haley Barnes both had four kills for Penn College while Hannah Burnett passed out eight assists.

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday when they play in a tri-match at Valley Forge. They take on the hosts at 11 a.m. and Rosemont at 1 p.m.
