Volleyball Team Earns #3 Seed for ACAA Tournament

The Alfred State volleyball team has earned the #3 seed for the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tournament to be held November 3rd-4th at SUNY Delhi.

#3 Alfred State (7-9) will take on #2 Finlandia (4-17) in the second semifinal on Saturday (11/3) at 6 p.m. The match will follow #1 seeded Thomas More (22-2) taking on host and #4-seed SUNY Delhi (12-6) at 4 p.m. The winners square off for the championship at Noon on Sunday, November 4. The Women's Volleyball Championship will be contested at the Clark Field House.

The Pioneers are led by senior Madison Webster (Corning). She leads the team with 177 kills and 217 digs. Sophomore Kiara Perkins (Coudersport) has 163 kills on the year and 96 digs, senior Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) has passed out 449 assists and has a team high 44 service aces, and freshman Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) is averaging 2.75 digs per set.

The Pioneers have not played anyone in the field as of yet but will compete vs. SUNY Delhi next Sunday (10/28) as they host the Broncos and Cazenovia in a tri-match.

Last year, Alfred State hosted the ACAA Championships. The blue & gold defeated Finlandia 3-0 in the semifinals but fell to 3-0 to SUNY Canton in the finals.

As approved by the member institutions, due to our geographic footprint the ACAA utilizes the Massey Ratings (masseyratings.com) published weekly for qualification and seeding into the postseason ACAA Championships in each sport except Cross Country. The host institution also receives an auto qualification, and if the host is not in the top four in the Bennett Rank on the deadline date for the Fall (Monday, October 15th) after Massey Ratings has updated them for the prior week they will automatically be assigned the #4 seed slot in place of the Massey Ratings #4-ranked team. The two-week minimum qualifying date was set so teams could make travel arrangements that insure they have a minimum of two weeks advance notice of travel before the Championship.
