Houghton Downs Pioneers in Pink Pride Contest

Houghton College started off fast and held off a late Alfred State rally as they defeated the Pioneers 25-11, 25-19, 30-28 on Wednesday evening. The contest was the volleyball team's annual Pink Pride game where they raised money to benefit Allegany County Cancer Services.

Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton) highlighted the evening with 23 assists for the Pioneers. With her solid effort she eclipsed the 1,000 assist mark for her two year career wearing the blue and gold (and sometimes pink). Madison Webster (Corning) led the team with nine kills and 15 digs while Kiara Perkins (Coudersport) had seven kills and seven digs.

Houghton used a solid serving game that featured 13 service aces (Haley Unverdorben led the way with five). Amber Edwards also had a big night finishing with 18 kills and seven digs. Morgan Potempa led the way with 16 digs and Unverdorben passed out 32 assists.

The Pioneers wrap up the regular season with a home tri-meet on Sunday. They take on SUNY Delhi at 10 a.m. and then battle Cazenovia at 2 p.m. Delhi and Cazenovia play each other at Noon.
